According to history, Cambodia was supposed to be one of the oldest countries in the ancient time. Nowadays, visitors from all around the world come to visit Cambodia every year. What can attract tourists to come to Cambodia?
Long ago in the past, especially in the Angkor Era, Cambodia was, if not worldwide, the strongest country ever known in the whole Indochina region. Also, during this period of time, Khmer kings in each reign commanded the construction of many temples which are counted to be 1080 up to these days. These temples serve many purposes, including representing as a token of victory, dedicating to courageous warriors who lost their lives in wars, dedicating to the Gods in Hinduism and Buddhism, or dedicating to the king’s Mother and Father, as presented in the reign of king Javaraman VII. If you ask most people, they will answer that foreigners come for these historic temples, especially the Angkor Wat, which was included as a World Heritage site in 1992. Yes, that may be true. What is special about Cambodia is that our ancestors built numerous temples that show how great and prosperous our civilization was in the past time. Consequently, thanks to all these temples and historic sites, our government is able to gain a lot of budgets from the tourism field annually in order to develop our country, and our Khmer citizens who make businesses around those places can earn money to support their family and their living standards as a whole.
Nonetheless, I would like to remind all of you that there still is another reason that makes those tourists interested in our country. That is the Nature. As you all know, in most modern countries such as Japan and America, it is true that their continual development is undeniable. But, simultaneously, that same development is also a disadvantage. For instance, in Japan, most of everything is artificial, and there aren’t as many natural sites as there are in Cambodia. Most of the tourists coming here in Cambodia like the natural sceneries and ancient sites much more than the modern artificial sceneries. Just think about it. If they like contemporary manmade constructions in our country, wouldn’t it be better if they went to other developed countries such as Dubai and the United States? Hence, Nature is also a factor that draws tourists in Cambodia.
Therefore, now that you know the reasons, I suggest you all to take care of our environment, that is to say, our Nature. Beoung Kak Lake is also part of Nature, so we shouldn’t have filled it up, for it has not only bad influence on the environment, but it also distracts tourists in Phnom Penh. Who knows? And we have to concentrate more on protecting and creating Natural resorts rather than taking time in building all these skyscrapers, and that is particularly the reason why we must reconsider if we want to preserve our true Cambodia !
